The Drakensberg Mountains

The Drakensberg Mountains form a 200 km range which is a world heritage site. The ox wagons of the Boers negotiated its precipitous passes in 1837 on the Great Trek.

The Blyde River Canyon

The River flows through a rugged gorge some 800 metres below the Escarpment crests. This rock formation is called “The Three Roundavals”, as the tops of the spirals appear to have a hut-like rounded roof.

The river winds its way down toward the Blyderivierspoort Dam.

The Sound of Rushing Water

The rainy season ensured that the waterfalls were in full spate.
