“I Spy with my little Eye”

Land Rovers provided the transport for our game drives. Rugged and reliable they might be, but not an ideal platform for photography, even if you had a “window seat”.
“Now you see me – Now you don’t”

Many of us were surprised at the height of the ground cover. This buffalo, standing around 5 feet at the shoulder, was all but hidden in the long grass.

“Now What have we Here?”

Although a height of around 16 feet means that the giraffe towers above the grass, it was amazing how their markings enabled them to disappear so effectively into their surroundings.

Pest Control Impala style

Impalas obtain sufficient moisture by eating dew-moistened grass and do not need to drink very frequently, if at all. They are however bothered by tics and here Tic Birds are doing themselves and the Impala a good turn by feeding on the pests.

Watch out – Here comes Kevin!

A young male elephant in “must” is not powerful enough to compete with a mature bull for mating rights. He therefore becomes very stroppy, as in Harry Enfield portrayal of the adolescent Kevin, and attempts to trample everyone and everything in his path. We beat a hasty retreat!

Sunset

A beautiful but dangerous time when the denizens of the day give way to the hunters of the night.
