False Bay

This is the largest true bay in South Africa, with a shoreline of some 30 kms. Its name came about because early navigators mistook Cape Hangklip for Cape Point. The errors resulted in many shipwrecks on the hazardous coast.

Penguin Aggro

The colony of African (Jackass) penguins at Boulder’s Beach has become a major tourist attraction. The penguins can swim at an average speed of 7kph and stay submerged for up to two minutes.

Having been told under no circumstances to feed the baboons, we were nevertheless taken aback at the way they helped themselves. This baboon snatched a packet of sandwiches from a tourist before retreating to the car roof to consume his ill-gotten gains.

This 10km stretch of coastal twists and turns amidst perilously steep and rugged cliffs, offering magnificent views over the ocean.
